Wholesale changes at Tottenham

However the money spent has never masked the huge void left by one Gareth Bale.

Over the past few years our concern was getting a striker that was capable of scoring goals, but what we in fact struggled to see that it was our midfield who were in fact struggling rather than the front line.

With such large major changes to the squad (more importantly to our starting 11) we must understand that time is essential to the success of this big money spend.

Unfortunately we are not in a position to give this time and it is what is causing so many fans to question the poor form that the team is showing. In turn this is now forcing the board to consider AVB's position (no matter what is released into the public AVB is not in a safe spot). With the Fair Play rulings for finance tightening and the money being pumped into the television rights we will soon see the true gap of life outside the Champions League. BT Sports winning the champion league rights has seen the top 4 get an increase in their overall income and it is for this reason why the Tottenham board are agitated and very concerned.

The top 4 in the EPL will be getting at least another £30million for their share in the TV rights from BT Sports which is one good signing and wages for 3 big star names every season. If the top 4 is fixed now it will likely continue for a long time, due to the financial constraints. So you can understand why financially keeping AVB in the hot seat with a Top 4 position fading fast would raise great concern.

The interesting thing is that although Spurs currently sit in 8th there is a small and easily achievable 4 point difference between 8th and 2nd and just 2 points between 8th and 4th. You can now see why AVB is still bullish and happy with the state of the things.

The real question is how Spurs will be able to make up the 4 points when the team is severely lacking in confidence and the dressing room has seemingly been lost. Reports seem to be constant with player unrest within the ranks.

My concern as a Spurs fan is that we are still lacking the link up of the midfielders and a lone striker. Against Tromso it was ridiculous, the amount of times that Soldado flung his arms up in frustration as Sigurdsson ignored his striker on too many occasions. Even when Sigurdsson had a clear channel for which to fed the ball through for Soldado he ignored it and went for glory. Dembele was also in the same frame of mind. Commentators and Pundits have now started to state that Soldado is being used as a wall or shield for the midfielders to use as a decoy so that they can increase their own goal tally.

With a serious issue like this it is apparent that these wholesale changes have drastically affected the Tottenham team and worse it seems AVB is helpless to tackle it.

Back in the day when I was playing football at a junior level we were told clearly defenders defend, midfielders support the defence and attack and the strikers score goals. Where has this simple concept been lost at Tottenham? I do not feel that it is one player's fault (as each of the players are culprits in their own right), but we must see a change. Players that have been at the club since before the summer have no excuse other than learning their team mates new styles, so to ignore your new team mates is not acceptable, it's disrespectful to your team mates and the club.

Managers had warned that our spending in the summer would cause us issues later on, but the issues have been there all along.

Levy & Co had brought in the players to change our teams fortunes. Eriksen, Paulinho and Lamela to add strength, creativity and goals, Soldado to be the spear head of our attack and then further additions to build a squad for the future.

In order to progress players and their immaturities must be addressed. Just looking at the stats from last night says it all for me. 12 shots all game with 62% possession! Our pass success rate was 82% and we had 9 corners to boot. The players with the most points last night were in defence (Naughton and Friedel achieve 1st and 2nd)! The left hand side of the pitch saw just over 2.5% and the right 5.88% of the game. Although that is the best rate I have seen on the right for a while ask yourself how many crosses we had! The midfield are still being allowed to cut in too much (which comes from playing someone out of position).

There are no excuses to be made for manager or players, so it is time that they put their differences aside and move forward out of respect for the club. AVB asked for a DOF to be bought in, the players came to the club knowing the situation and game plan, those already working under AVB knew the game plan, so it's time for them all to grow up.

Wholesale changes were made, all were aware that this was going to happen so they should be striving and working harder to make it all a success. They must all see their failure!

The game against Utd is going to be difficult, but again like with City and us we have all struggled and lost games we shouldn't. We have an opportunity to turn this ship around and there is no better team to do this against than Utd, a big scalp to push us on till the end of 2013.
