Tottenham Hotspur are expected to complete the signing of Orlando Pride and United States women's national team striker Alex Morgan on a short-term deal until the end of the year.
Morgan's last appearance for the Pride came back in August 2019, after which she picked up a season-ending knee injury. Just a few months later, she announced her pregnancy, giving birth to daughter Charlie in May of this year.
Her search for regular minutes upon her return has been hampered by the coronavirus pandemic, which saw the Pride kicked out of the Challenge Cup and left the team with just four matches in the NWSL Fall Series. In her quest for regular football, Morgan has agreed to join Spurs, with The Athletic noting that the 31-year-old is looking forward to regular game time and intense training sessions as she seeks to prepare herself for a return to the USWNT.
The Women's Super League transfer window did close on Thursday, but the deal is believed to have been signed off on before the deadline.
Spurs have enjoyed a healthy relationship with the Pride in recent seasons. Spurs head of football Heather Cowen is close with Pride manager Marc Skinner - the pair having worked together at Birmingham City in the past - and that link has seen a number of players make the move to the English side this summer.
Morgan will reunite with Pride team-mates Shelina Zadorsky and Alanna Kennedy, both of whom sealed their own loans to Spurs back in August, while she will also become the fifth high-profile member of the USWNT to move to the WSL.
Sam Mewis and Rose Lavelle have joined Manchester City, with Christen Press and Tobin Heath joining cross-town rivals Manchester United, and these moves have only increased the growing reputation of women's football in England.
Away from America, City also brought in Champions League winners Lucy Bronze and Alex Greenwood from Lyon, and Chelsea ensured they didn't miss out on the fun by striking a deal to sign forward Pernille Harder from Wolfsburg.
