Can Defoe upstage Rooney at Theatre of Dreams?

Lately Manchester United have been accused of relying heavily on Wayne Rooney, who returns from suspension after missing Tuesday night’s Champions League stalemate with Lille.

Ruud Van Nistelrooy has scored eight times in the Premiership so far this season, often as a lone striker with Rooney playing out of position Sir Alex Ferguson has opted for a 4-5-1 formation.

Between them Tottenham’s trio of strikers have scored as many as Van Nistelrooy, but Head Coach Martin Jol is reluctant to accommodate Robbie Keane in the same team as Jermain Defoe and Mido, usually preferring to utilise Keane’s strengths late on in matches.

"I couldn’t play Defoe on the right, Keane on the left and Mido in the middle. They are all No 9s. They are finishers who have to play in the box," Jol told The Sun.
