Carabao Cup Roundup: Manchester United Ease Past Luton, Newport Shock Watford

Thousands and thousands of hours of football, each more climactic than the last! Constant, dizzying, twenty-four hour, yearlong, endless football! Every kick of it massively mattering to someone, presumably. Watch it all, all here, all the time, forever, it will never stop, the football is officially going on forever!

Yep, there was more football on Tuesday night. The poor guys aren't going to have any muscles left by the time next summer comes around.

It was Carabao Cup action that had us all hooked this time, with Manchester United visiting Luton in the standout clash of the evening.

Here's your roundup for the evening's results.

Leyton Orient P-P Tottenham

The night's early kick off between Leyton Orient and Tottenham was cancelled as a number of Orient players tested positive for Covid-19.

It is still unclear whether Spurs will receive a bye to the next round or if the fixture will be replayed at a later date.

West Brom 2-2 Brentford

West Brom have lost their first two Premier League games of the season, conceding eight goals in the process, so perhaps it wasn't a massive shock to see the Baggies booted out of the cup by last season's promotion chasing Brentford.

The tie went to penalties despite the hosts taking the lead twice, with three real spot-kicks awarded during the 90 minutes. Hal Robson-Kanu scored twice, but strikes from Emiliano Marcondes and Marcus Forss forced the draw.

Grady Diangana missed in the shootout for West Brom, allowing Christian Norgaard to send the Bees into the fourth round, where they'll play Fulham or Sheffield Wednesday.

Newport 3-1 Watford

The main shock of the evening came in Wales, where League Two side Newport reached the fourth round for the first time in their history by comfortably seeing off the Championship's Watford.

Tristan Abrahams put the home side ahead from the penalty spot before Joss Labadie doubled their advantage. The Hornets came back into the contest through Adalberto Penaranda's penalty, but Padraig Amond restored Newport's two-goal advantage before substitute Stipe Perica saw red for an elbow.

Newport will face either Morecombe or Newcastle.

West Ham 5-1 Hull

West Ham manager David Moyes was diagnosed with Covid-19 shortly before West Ham's London Stadium clash with Hull, with Issa Diop and Josh Cullen also testing positive.

On the pitch, the Hammers had little trouble in seeing off their League One opponents as Sebastien Haller and Andriy Yarmolenko netted braces following Robert Snodgrass' opener. Mallik Wilks netted the Tigers' consolation in the 70th minute.

West Ham face an away trip to either Fleetwood or Everton in the next round.

Luton 0-3 Manchester United

There was to be no giant-killing in Luton, where Manchester United eased past their hosts courtesy of Juan Mata's first-half penalty, Marcus Rashford's calm finish and Mason Greenwood's tidy effort.

Dean Henderson, Eric Bailly, Donny van de Beek, Jesse Lingard and Odion Ighalo were all given starts as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer shook up the team sheet from the weekend's defeat to Crystal Palace.

It was hardly enthralling viewing, but the Red Devils still progressed and will face either Preston or Brighton. You can find player ratings for the game here.
