Harry Kane Insists Cup Exits Can Boost Spurs in Champions League Push

Tottenham captain Harry Kane has claimed that being able to solely focus on the Premier League could work in his side's favour, as football resumes following an enforced break due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Spurs sit in eighth as the season resumes, seven points adrift of fourth place, but they only have their final nine Premier League games to play while top four rivals Manchester United, Wolves and fourth-placed Chelsea still have cup competitions to compete in.

The 26-year-old saw the positives in Spurs being in just the one competition as the football season resumes, revealing to Sky Sports: "From our point of view we are not in any of the other competitions so we have got nine games to concentrate on picking up as many points and try and get into the Champions League spots.

"So at least all our focus is going to be on one competition."

Kane has been out of action for the last six months after suffering a hamstring injury after a 1-0 defeat at Southampton on New Year's Day, but provided an insight into his time on the shelf, saying: "It's been a chance for me to get fit, it has been six months since I have played a game so I haven't done that since I was about five years old."

The England international also revealed that he was actually on the cusp of rejoining squad training sessions before the lockdown was implemented, adding: "I was doing individual training for a while and almost got to a stage where I was back with the team and then we had to stay at home."

The news means that Spurs can look forward to Kane being available for selection imminently as he gets back up to speed with the squad, to the delight of fans.

Jose Mourinho's side are in desperate need of Kane's goals as they bid to leapfrog up the table and claim a Champions League spot for next season.

Mourinho has been so eager to prepare his side for the Champions League push that he was caught training with some of his players in a public park in April, breaching social distancing and lockdown rules.
