Harry Kane says winning personal awards is 'bittersweet' without team trophies

Harry Kane has admitted winning individual awards is 'bittersweet' while Tottenham continue to come up short in their bid for silverware.

The England captain started the Carabao Cup final against Manchester City on Sunday but could do nothing to stop Pep Guardiola's side from lifting the cup for the fourth time in a row, meaning he is still trophyless throughout his entire career.

Kane is currently en route to winning another Premier League Golden Boot and was announced as the Premier League Player of the Year at the London Football Awards on Tuesday night.

But the 27-year-old reiterated his desire to win team trophies at some point in his career, with talk of a potential transfer this summer swirling more than ever.

Speaking via Evening Standard, Kane said: "Individual awards are great, they are fantastic achievements. When I look back at the end of my career, I will go over it and take in a little bit more.

"The goal right now as a player is to win team trophies. As much as this [award] is great, I want to be winning the biggest prizes that there is to offer as a team and we are not quite doing that.

“It is one of those [situations], it is bittersweet. I would rather be winning team trophies and this award. It is what it is. I am proud to win it. It means it has been a good season on the pitch, so I have just got to try and continue what I am doing."

As Kane starts to reach the peak years of his career having already been so good for so long, the top serial winners in Europe are reportedly circling. Manchester City are looking to replace Sergio Aguero and are looking at the Spurs striker and Erling Haaland as potential targets.

He has admitted that staying in the Premier League is appealing as he hunts down Alan Shearer's 260 goal record, having moved within 100 goals of him during this campaign.

He added: "For sure, if I finish my career as Premier League top goalscorer and, hopefully, England top goalscorer, that'd be incredible - but it wouldn't feel as good if I didn't have a lot of team trophies to go with that. If I didn't have the Premier League or a European Championship to go with that.

"From an individual point of view, of course that's the end goal, to try and score as many goals as possible and be at the top of those charts. But, for sure, without winning the biggest trophies as a team, it wouldn't feel as good.

“Obviously being under 100 goals away now it feels like it is a little bit closer than maybe in the previous seasons.

“But that’s still a lot of goals to score over a few years or so. I am not too focused on it. I just try and take each season as they come."
