Jol's lessons pay off for Defoe

Martin Jol has praised Jermain Defoe for improving as a player in the last 12 months.

"Jermain's overall game - his combinations, on the ball, in his tactical approach for the team - he had to learn a bit and he's done that, so he's got better and better.

"He's always remained positive and been an example for the other lads. Even when he hasn't been playing, he's always wanted to do well. Robbie Keane has been the same.

"Robbie has started to do some ball work, he's also done a lot of pool work with his knee," said Jol.
