Tottenham Hotspur manager José Mourinho has confessed that he deserved his yellow card for entering the Southampton dugout to confront an 'idiot' on the Saints' bench on Wednesday.
After Harry Kane had a goal ruled out for offside in the fixture - which Spurs lost 1-0 - Mourinho appeared to clash with Southampton's goalkeeping coach Andrew Sparkes, entering the dugout to exchange words with the staff member.
Speaking after the game (via football.london), Mourinho dismissed suggestions that he had taken the opportunity to peek at Southampton's notes, but confessed that he knew he was going to be booked.
"I think the yellow card was fair because I was rude. But I was rude to an idiot," he said. "And for some reason I was rude, but I was. And because I was rude I deserved the yellow card."
BBC Sport note that the exchange of words between the pair involved Mourinho's frustration at Southampton's time-wasting tactics, but they do add that the boss appeared to look at some notes on the bench while he was there.
"
"Of course it's a concern. You think you have a player and he is in the evolution process. He plays very well at Norwich and we were full of hope that today he would be ready for this. And he wasn’t. I cannot say much more than that because it is a situation that comes from the beginning of the season."
