Jose Mourinho gives updates on Dele Alli and Harry Kane returns

Jose Mourinho has revealed Tottenham striker Harry Kane could return from injury to face Manchester City or Everton over the next few weeks.

Kane took blows to both ankles in the 3-1 defeat to Liverpool last week and missed the following trip to Brighton, where Spurs looked particularly lifeless in attack during a 1-0 loss.

Speaking ahead of Thursday's London derby with Chelsea, Mourinho said. "Good progress, he's happy with the progress and we're happy too.

"I think it's not a very optimistic thing to say next week he should be playing, it will be a consequence of his good evolution.

"We're happy. We were scared when it happened but next week we play Everton and [Manchester] City at the weekend. I believe for one of these matches he should be back."

The former Chelsea boss also shed light on the current situation around Dele Alli.

The England international has been frozen out of the squad for much of the season, making infrequent appearances in the league and various cup competitions. He has officially been missing recently due to injury, though a rumoured move to Paris Saint-Germain has been cited as a factor in his recent absence.

That transfer failed to come to fruition, leaving Alli furious and frustrated as revealed by 90min, and there have been calls for him to be reintroduced to the squad during Tottenham's recent poor run of form.

Mourinho added: "He needs to recover from his injury, return to training and have a fresh start. Last week he couldn't even train, so that's the most important thing.

"I had a good conversation with him yesterday [Tuesday], we spoke and I think we found very common ground. It's an important period of the season for the team and for him also. We need him. We need a good Dele Alli."

Regarding the team's recent issues creating chances, he added: "Dele, Kane, Lo Celso, we're talking about players that without all three we miss creation, some magic around the attacking areas.

"We had a conversation. Of course a conversation doesn't put a player in great form but hopefully the motivation he [Dele] needs to be back for the team.

"We are in the Europa League, the Premier League and the FA Cup although I don't believe he'll be back for that. I think when he's physically ready he'll be in a good frame of mind."
