Tottenham Boss José Mourinho Sanctions Danny Rose Loan Extension at Newcastle United

Tottenham Hotspur manager José Mourinho has reportedly given his blessing for left-back Danny Rose to extend his loan deal with Newcastle United until the conclusion of the 2019/20 season.

Rose joined Steve Bruce's side on loan at the end of the January transfer window but has only played six games for his new employers before the season was suspended in March due to the coronavirus outbreak.

As the Premier League is scheduled to return on 17 June, and with teams still to play nine or ten games, the competition will not conclude until late July or early August. This poses questions surrounding the immediate future of players with contracts expiring this season.

Rose's initial loan agreement with Newcastle runs until 30 June, but Football Insider has reported that the clubs are engaged in discussions to extend this arrangement until the end of the current campaign, with Mourinho's rubber stamp of approval on proceedings.

After starting the first seven league games of the season under Mauricio Pochettino, Rose's role under the incoming Mourinho was reduced to just one appearance in a Premier League starting XI, prompting the move to the north east.

The 29-year-old even got into a training ground bust-up with the Portuguese manager at the turn of the year, after a disagreement between the pair concerning Rose's fitness.

At Newcastle, the England international has missed just one of the matches he has been available for since his arrival shortly after his confrontation with Mourinho. However, it's by no means a certainty that he will be straight back into the starting lineup once the season resumes.

In May Rose delivered a forceful assessment of the Premier League's proposed return as he voiced his concerns regarding the safety of all those involved. Nevertheless, Newcastle look to have secured Rose's talents for the remainder of a season, which still has much to offer as the Magpies look forward to an FA Cup quarter-final clash.
