Tottenham Close to Finalising Shock Deal for Real Sociedad Striker Willian José

Real Sociedad striker Willian José is close to joining Tottenham after Harry Kane's long-term injury has forced the north London club to hasten their search for a backup striker.

The 28-year-old has eight goals in 22 games in all competitions for Sociedad this season, but is now on the verge of a move to Spurs.

AS report that José Mourinho was insistent on finding a replacement for Kane, who could even miss Euro 2020, and the club are now locked in negotiations with the Basque side regarding a move for the Brazilian forward.

The report says that a fee is yet to be agreed between Socieded and Spurs, but the player could travel to London on Wednesday night or Thursday ahead of a potential switch. They add that the striker was to be dropped for the San Sebastián side's Copa del Rey clash against Espanyol, which has now been confirmed.

José has a release clause of €70m, but it is not expected that this will be the final fee - Spurs baulked at the €35m fee that Milan demanded for Krzysztof Piątek, and were not expected to spend huge sums in this window anyway, as Mourinho himself has made clear in press conferences since his appointment.

While he has been a key piece in what's been a great season for Sociedad, it's tough to tell whether he could replicate his form in the Premier League in a Spurs side that's been well below par this season.

José has been linked with West Ham, Chelsea and even Real Madrid in the past, but it appears that Tottenham are the side that will ultimately seal his signature.

In 130 games for La Real, José has scored 53 goals and provided 13 assists. He arrived in 2016 from Las Palmas and has been an undoubted success at Anoeta, but his departure could reportedly see youngster Alexander Isak receive more playing time following his arrival from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2019.
