The 25-year-old made 42 appearances for the Nerazzurri last season but faded out of the first team picture somewhat after the coronavirus enforced lockdown.

Spurs are looking to bolster their defensive options with their current centre-backs, Eric Dier, Toby Alderweireld and Davinson Sanchez all enduring poor starts to the season. Their ranks have also been weakened by the departure of Belgium international Jan Vertonghen in the summer, while Japhet Tanganga is injured.

One possible solution to Spurs' defensive woes could be long-term target Skriniar. According to football.london, the club have entered talks with Inter over a deal but negotiations are a long way from being finalised.

The Serie A side are understood to want in excess of £50m for the defender who also has experience stepping into midfield when required. Spurs can not afford the deal without selling several first-team players first. Danny Rose, Juan Foyth and even Dele Alli have all been linked with moves away and these three departures would land a hefty windfall.

A cheaper defensive option could be Beijing Guoan's Kim Min-jae. Earlier this month, 90min reported that Tottenham were considering a move for the South Korean on the recommendation of his international teammate Son Heung-min. However, they were recently joined in the race for 'The Monster's' services by Leicester.

Meanwhile, Spurs' pursuit of Napoli frontman Arkadiusz Milik is winding down. Mourinho has long been interested in strengthening his striking options with Harry Kane currently the only fully fit, natural number nine in the squad.

Milik saw a move to Roma fall through recently but it is understood that Spurs remain unlikely to move for the Poland international during the current transfer window. Tottenham have also been linked with Manchester United's Jesse Lingard and VfL Wolfsburg target man Wout Weghorst.
