Tottenham Legends React to Harry Kane's 200th Goal for the Club

Spurs legend Glenn Hoddle and Gary Lineker are among those who have praised Harry Kane following his 200th goal for the club, scored in Thursday night’s Europa League win over Ludogorets.

Kane scored the opening goal of the 3-1 win in Bulgaria, his 300th appearance, to hit the double century milestone a little over just six years since he became a regular first-team player.

Now, only Bobby Smith (208) and Jimmy Greaves (266), both legends of the glorious Spurs side of the early 1960s, have scored more goals in the history of Tottenham.

“Good win and a proud night for me reaching 200 Spurs goals. More to come,” Kane himself posted on social media after the Ludogorets victory.

“Time goes so quick it feels like yesterday I scored my first for Spurs. It's a great achievement but let's keep them coming,” the England captain had earlier commented to television cameras.

For the record, that first goal came in December 2011 in a Europa League game against Irish side Shamrock Rovers in Dublin, a late fourth in 4-0 win. With his early career dominated by lower league loan spells, it was nearly two years before Kane got his second goal in Spurs colours.

A few months earlier, Kane had also made his Spurs debut in the Europa League in a qualifying game against Hearts. He actually missed a penalty that night to get off the mark even sooner.

“I'm delighted for him. Look at those players there, Smith and Jimmy Greaves are only ahead of him,” Hoddle commented on BT Sport. “If he stays at the club I think he could actually catch Jimmy. He’ll be disappointed he didn’t score the earlier chance to get to the 200.”

Lineker, who scored 80 goals in just three seasons at Tottenham towards the end of his career, tweeted his appreciation: “What an achievement for Harry Kane scoring his 200th goal for Spurs in his 300th game. Well played.”

Spurs boss Jose Mourinho actually offered very few words on the incredible milestone achievement, but his comments still carried plenty of weight.

“I don’t need to speak because the numbers, they speak for themselves,” he said.
