Tottenham vs Southampton Preview: How to Watch on TV, Live Stream, Kick Off Time & Team News

Tottenham host Southampton in Wednesday's FA Cup fourth round replay as both sides hope to book their place in the fifth round.

Having drawn the initial tie 1-1 at St. Mary's, both teams will be aiming to extend their cup runs, knowing a victory would set up a fifth round clash on home soil against Premier League strugglers Norwich.

Sofiane Boufal's 87th-minute equaliser cancelled out Son Heung-min's opener on 25 January in the first clash, forcing a replay which will take place in north London. The sides have already met once this season in the capital, seeing a narrow 2-1 victory for Spurs following an early red card for the hosts.

Tottenham come in to this following their dramatic 2-0 win against current Premier League champions Manchester City at the weekend, while Southampton were unlucky to lose 4-0 to world champions Liverpool last Saturday afternoon.

Here is 90min's preview of this exciting FA Cup replay.

Team News

New fan favourite Steven Bergwijn is ineligible for this clash as FA Cup rules state a player must be available for the first tie to feature in a replay. Meanwhile, Dele Alli is a slight doubt for Wednesday night after being on the end of a severe tackle from England teammate Raheem Sterling on Sunday.

Harry Kane, Moussa Sissoko and Ben Davies are all still sidelined for the foreseeable future.

Dele Alli, Jose Mourinho

The only notable absentee for the Saints is Stuart Armstrong who is expected back in several weeks after sustaining a hip injury. Ralph Hasenhuttl will likely name his strongest starting lineup, with Southampton's improved league position offering them some respite in their fight for survival. Kyle Walker-Peters - signed from Spurs on loan at the back end of the January transfer window - is unable to face his parent side.

Predicted Lineups

Tottenham Lloris; Aurier, Alderweireld, Sanchez, Tanganga; Fernandes, Winks, Lo Celso, Lamela; Moura, Son
Southampton McCarthy; Danso, Stephens, Vestergaard, Bertrand; Djenepo, Ward-Prowse, Hojbjerg; Redmond; Obafemi, Ings

Head-to-Head Record

This will be the 197th meeting between these two teams, with Spurs enjoying the greater past success in this fixture. The Lilywhites have won 82 of the clashes, drawn 50 and lost 64.

Heung-Min Son,Kevin Danso,James Ward-Prowse

This pair have already faced one another three times this season, with both teams having won one, drawn one and lost one. The reverse fixture in the cup ended all-square, while both sides were victorious in their home fixtures in the league with narrow one-goal margins.

Recent Form

Despite beating City on Sunday evening, Spurs haven't been in particularly good form recently. While they have avoided defeat in their last five, performances have been far from convincing and even this weekend's important victory looked in doubt for long periods of the game.

Spurs have struggled without Kane up front, and have not scored three or more in a game since 7 December when they beat Burnley 5-0. Clean sheets have also been generally hard to come by since Jose Mourinho's arrival in north London, with their last two shutouts requiring penalty saves.

Ralph Hasenhuttl

Despite an emphatic scoreline at Anfield, Southampton were impressive against the runaway league leaders. Given how difficult a venue they had to visit, the Saints frustrated Liverpool for large periods, and were left to rue many missed opportunities on Merseyside, while they also had a strong appeal for a penalty turned down with the score at 0-0.

Hasenhuttl has now guided Southampton back up to 13th following a run of five wins and a draw from their last eight league games.

Here is how both sides have fared in their last five fixtures in all competitions.

Tottenham Southampton
Tottenham 2-0 Manchester City (2/2) Liverpool 4-0 Southampton (1/2)
Southampton 1-1 Tottenham (25/1) Southampton 1-1 Tottenham (25/1)
Tottenham 2-1 Norwich (22/1) Crystal Palace 0-2 Southampton (21/1)
Watford 0-0 Tottenham (18/1) Southampton 2-3 Wolves (18/1)
Tottenham 2-1 Middlesbrough (14/1) Leicester 1-2 Southampton (11/1)

Prediction

With both sides putting in a gargantuan shift at the weekend against the league's best two teams, this is the last thing either club needed. Fatigue may very well play a part in the outcome, as well as the manager's team selections - although both will most likely pick strong lineups.

Erik Lamela,Ryan Bertrand

Southampton have been very good away from home this season, especially at the big clubs, and have already picked up league points in London against Chelsea and Arsenal. Hasenhuttl's high-octane press may cause Mourinho's Spurs some problems, and the Saints will be hoping to prey on any moments of indecision or sloppiness.

Spurs are still favourites, however, and with the top four not guaranteed, a good cup run and potentially a first piece of silverware for Mourinho at Spurs, is essential.

Prediction: Tottenham 2-1 Southampton
