A loss that felt like a win

Yesterday was in fact one of those games.

If it hadn't have been for a poo performing Mason or officials that were as blind as a bat Tottenham would have won the game.

Seems as I have brought this up first lets get the bad out of the way. Mason should never play with Bentaleb or rather not in the big games. The pair lack the experience and strength to play as a pair of DM. Usually one of them have a poor game and Mason happened to be that one. Beating the offside trap the player seem to forget he was playing football, it was like watching a moment when someone runs upstairs for something only for it to dawn on them that they have completely forgotten what they wanted.

The officials were all poor yesterday, cards unnecessarily given, a clear penalty missed (letter of the law the city defender should have then walked).

As I can honestly say I do not wish to allow complete moron's to spoil what was in fact a great game (decided by a great goal by Ageuro), I will get onto the good stuff.

If Tottenham were to perform as they did yesterday for most of the games in a season, you would see a team challenging for a top 3 slot not struggling to keep up with 5th.

Lamela had his best game for Spurs (in the league) and it was him that was pulled most of the strings. Unlike Eriksen who had another inconsistent quiet game and Kane who was kept out of it.

Dier and Rose performed the best of the whole back 4 (in fact better than Lloris). Both getting forward and supporting well, then holding the back 4 well. Although I had not thought too much of Rose, my mind has changed now and Dier is without a doubt a future England International.

Bentaleb did not put a foot wrong in my opinion. He bossed the DM sector well and did some great link up play.

Although the rest of the team did not perform particularly well they pulled together as a team.

Looking at the stats alone (obviously not including goals) Spurs won that game in every part of the pitch. But alas the game is not won on stats and in fact won on goals scored and conceded. Yesterday fell down to the clinical finishing in front of goal. Aguero did not fail to live up to his current Top Goal Scorer name, where as Kane was kept out of much of the game.

If Spurs can take this performance and build on it, I really do think come the summer with KEY players brought in we are looking at a Tottenham side capable of a Champions League finish once again.
