Benni expects Life!

This season (due to injury) we have seen Benni find it difficult to get into the team. The likes of Vertonghen and Naughton have been placed at left back and done well enough to then keep Benni out of the side upon his return.

As we all remember it was not too long ago that Benni was linked with a move away from Tottenham (all to our surprise), so it is a big turnaround to now hear that Benni is expecting to see out his career at WHL.

I am loving this, as although Benni is struggling it just shows the team spirit is just at its highest.

Anyway here is what he had to say:

"I would be quite happy to see out my playing career here, although I know that it's not my call to make."

"I have every desire to see out my contractual obligations and, if possible, extend so that I can be here for long enough to play at the new stadium."

Being out of the frame for a while Benni was happy to voice further that he was surprised for Harry to have been sacked, but also spoke about how different AVB's approach to the game was.

"I phoned Harry straight away [after his sacking], I liked working with him - he has a cool attitude. With AVB, he changes his teams more, moves them around. Some players will play two or three different positions in a single match."

"The one thing that I can say with certainty is that the chairman has the club moving in the right direction. I've seen the growth, first-hand, over seven years. You have to respect that."

Benni went on to discuss that he had gone to watch home games in disguise (amongst the fans) during his 4 month injury.

"I now feel I have a better understanding of what it is to be a supporter and, for me, there are two types."

"There are the fans who pass judgment quickly - who say, from the comfort of their seats, how they would have cut the ball on the inside, swung the ball around or brought it down. It was like I was sitting with Messi, Ronaldo and Maradona."

"Then you have the other supporter, who understands the technical things a bit more and is patient. They are smaller in number, but they do exist."

Well not sure which one I fall under probably a bit of both in all honesty, as I was never good enough to play to a high standard.

Either way Benni is a player I enjoy to watch and whether he stays or goes I will always like the honesty and how genuine he is as an individual.

It will be interesting to see how AVB views Benni come the summer as anyone would find it hard to argue that AVB definitely regards BAE highly (as we haven’t seen this either way yet).

If he does put him into the squad for the game against Southampton we all know that Benni will work his socks off pacing up and down that left hand side.
