Can we depend on Dempsey?

Clint Dempsey is somewhat of a phenomenon to me. He came to us a player that scored 23 goals in 46 games last season (so there was a lot of promise). However it has taken a while for Dempsey to find his scoring boots (doing most of his work setting his team mates up). However in the last 7 games Dempsey has managed 4 goals (ok 2 against Coventry), but he seems to have found his shooting boots now. This could not have come at a better time for me as Defoe is looking tired and frustrated (which is understandable given that JD has played 21 games). The frustration I feel is from the fact that the quality in midfield is not what it was (although it has helped him to score 10 goals so far), it could be better. With Ade too many fans have forgotten what this guy did for us last season. Ade does not look like the same player of last season. As to why, I believe that the player felt fit enough to play (after his loan was made permanent), but AVB kept him back (rightly so with JD scoring) and then when he has come back into the squad he feels a little lacking in confidence and I don't blame him.

I believe in JD and Ade. I think that they can both do a great job. Both players need a boost and confidence injection, but by not adding any strikers, it doesn’t give them the confidence, it makes them think they are guaranteed their place (due to a lack of competition).

As it stands Dempsey has found his feet, he and Bale are essentially replacing the goals that we are now lacking from the strikers. I can see the problem in each game though, our strikers are coming deep to get involved in the game and then we lack a man to knock it to upfront. Its not tactics, its not the players its Levy not making the needed additions (his fault or not).

Back on subject though can we depend on Dempsey, yes we can, but it will be to the detriment of the squad and our league position. Money must be spent on another forward and the much needed creativity injection into the team. I still believe Sneijder to be the best midfielder to fit in and Damiao would be the best strike option, but there are too many issues surrounding both players. With Holtby likely to now come in Jan I don't see us making any more purchases than what we have already.

And that ladies and gentlemen is the same issue as always, Levy gets in a cheaper option (this was blamed on Harry, but it has been this way before Harry was around) rather than spend the needed (available) cash. He must support AVB more than he has supported any of his previous managers, but he is not a gambler.

In the summer Levy had supported AVB (we had seen a lot of money be spent, but there was just as much coming in), so lets hope that he is just keeping some tricks up his sleeve to surprise us all with. I really want to eat some humble pie on this and for Levy to prove me wrong, so fingers crossed, I have my knife and fork ready Mr Levy just serve it up!
