Dempsey assessment

Last updated : 14 May 2013 By Hog

This season in 33 games Dempsey has notched 12 goals and 6 assists. Last season at Fulham he managed 23 goals and 6 assists, but in 46 games. Dempsey has had some setbacks this season with injuries, but I can guarantee you it is the different roles that Dempsey has been forced to play that has made the difference.

At Fulham Clint had a set role, but at Tottenham his roles have ranged from Left mid all the way across to right mid, then everything between there and going up front as well.

I do not believe that Clint has had a bad season, he has adapted well. The war horse has chipped in with some important goals and assists, so I do not feel we can question his ability or seasons performance. Looking at the current formation Bale is the support man and this is Dempsey's role too. So he is having to drop further back into midfield or sit on the bench and be used in Bale's absence.

So looking at it fellow fans, is it really that bad a season? I think not. He is a good squad player and brings some real grit to the side. Moving forward with the squad that may change, but for now Dempsey has had 18 direct affects within our games and that cannot be bad surely?

Again we look to tonight though and I am as nervous as a kid on his first date! I still think Wigan has what it takes, but we cannot rule Arsenal out. This is the biggest game of the season as essentially it decides the last relegated team and the last Champions League spot.
