Does 1 up front work?

It used to be that a traditional 4-4-2 was the best formation for all teams, but as the game has changed and wingers have evolved into support men and forwards new formations have been brought in to pressurise the defense line.

If you have a capable and confident striker as a lone man this formation works beautifully. Even recently we have seen Spain win with no strikers on the pitch! "Maybe in crazy land" we were all thinking, but it worked!

The difference is that you must have a very capable midfield. They must communicate to work well, as essentially they are defenders and attackers. Our problem is that we do not have a team that is settled and we have key men missing.

On paper Bale and Lennon on the wings with Sandro, Parker and Dembele looks great, but we are now missing 3 of them! This leaves Huddlestone, Livermore and if Sandro is out he must be replaced by Dempsey (the only player with enough experience to fill the gap).

So in this scenario yes I feel that AVB could switch to 4-4-2, however Lennon and Bale then are not as affective as they are given more responsibility and drawn in to defend. So this now means that we must then rely on the central midfields to create more chances, but Livermore is not this type of player, which leaves just Huddlestone.

Huddlestone would be a capable player, but he is still getting his match fitness back and sharpness, so it puts us in a very difficult position for selection.

My ideal team would be;

                                                Lloris

                            Walker Vertonghen Kaboul BAE

                                                Parker

                                   Dembele Moutinho/ Willian

                       Lennon                                          Bale

                                              Adebayor

Then our subs being Friedel, Dawson, Naughton, Sandro, Livermore, Townsend and Defoe.

With the above team I am certain we would all agree that it would give Naughton, Livermore and Townsend the opportunity to ease into the team and we could drop either of the 3 in at any time to give them more experience.

However you could argue that given the age of the "young" players they should of shown more to get into the team right? I like all 3 of these, however I would like to see them push on more. Naughton had even looked reasonable at left back, so maybe he is the cover we need for BAE?

Either way my reasoning is quite clear and I believe that what I am writing makes sense, but maybe others feel that a 4-4-2 makes sense. I am up for listening to others opinions if they feel that my ideas have too many drawbacks. So come on people tell me what you want to see maybe the players and staff would sit up and take notice if we all have enough people listening.

Come on you Spurs!
