The team are in such disarray over leadership the current club captain is not even a starter and the vice captain is also unlikely to feature in the side any time soon.
If the team were to purchase an experienced international leader you would see their fortune change overnight.
You can see that Vertonghen is not bossing the back 4, if anything it is more Dier than him. He has shown that he is incapable of living up to his potential, but would make a great partner to an experienced defender.
Dier and Rose would both benefit from someone that will tell them stay back, push up or stay on that man.
It's great to see the club signing such great youth and potential, however it is all going to waste if there is no one to lead the lads on the pitch.
As vice captain Adebayor is not doing well to help calm fans or help fans realise that the team is working hard, if anything he simply adds fuel to the fire (saying it’s all about Kane).
Every great team has some experience somewhere that the team rely on, Keane, Batty, Ferdinand and Mabbutt all names that remind you of leaders, someone that you could rely on at any time to pull the team together.
Yes as an outsider it is very easy to jump on players back and point out every mistake that they have made, but the manger has not installed a leader into the team and the coaching, scouting and Chairman have done nothing to bring such a player in. It's not a quick or simple fix as you are looking at having to buy one of the best to fill this void, but in order to progress as a club onto bigger and better things it’s a simple decision to make. If you are going to spend money do it in the right places.
You want Lloris to stay and the youngsters to sign up to longer deals, you need to have a leader, a convincer, someone that you can turn to. Once you have that it’s a big chunk of the problem resolved. Vertonghen and Dier have the needed rock, the team are then strengthened at the back and it allows the midfield to concentrate on the forward movement and then for the forwards to stop dropping deep.
As to who you sign well the list is endless of possibilities, just need MoPo to make a decision
