Gallas called in over poor performances

I believe that AVB has handled this well in not singling out individuals as we all know that Gallas can get childish from his past outburst at Arsenal.

Although Gallas must shoulder over 50% of the blame himself for the goals conceded the defence in whole must answer, but I hope that the way in which it was handled has not put other defenders nose out of joint.

Personally if it was me I would stand up and say Gallas has conceded 5 or 6 goals alone and we need to work on helping him and giving him cover. I know it can alienate people by pointing the finger, but someone with a personality like Gallas I think that would work in giving him the kick up the backside that he needs.

His performance against Swansea is the best game I have seen him play in a long long time, but lets face it with the players we have when they are all fully fit Gallas does not stand a chance of a starting position (unless he begins to turn his personal performances around).

In an interview with Talksport this is what Gallas had to say;

We've had a meeting with him (Villas-Boas) because we've been conceding late goals and we have to be a little bit more focused, a bit more strong. Sometimes maybe we are panicking and we've let goals in. So we've been working very hard and we've had some meetings to look at the video to see what is good and bad, and against Swansea it was good to keep a clean sheet. In this period, we have a lot of games and some players are tired - they have already played more than 20 games this season, which is a lot. It's very intense. If we want to stay in the top four, we have to get all the players ready for the matches over Christmas and New Year, because we are going to be playing four games in 11 days."

On speaking about the next few games Gallas said;

"Stoke are a strong side and it will be difficult but we've got the quality. We can play football and we're playing at home, so we don't have any excuses to lose the game. Then we play Villa, who are on fire at the moment after winning 3-1 at Liverpool in their last game, and at the moment they are confident. They have Christian Benteke in attack, who has shown this season what a good player he is. At the moment, we are in the top four and they are trying to survive in the Premier League, so it will be a good game."

I was surprised to see Gallas stating that Villa are on fire at the moment, but I expect 6 points from these 2 games anything less is a failure. If we are to compete for the top 4 we must beat the likes of Stoke and Villa whether we are at home or away. Villa have not been in good form this year, but a 3-1 win at Anfield was a great result (but lets face it Liverpool are no longer the team of yesteryear!).

Once again I must point out to all that AVB is working hard and his tactics are working and the team are starting to reap the rewards. It stands to be a good game at home to Stoke and I for one cannot wait as we are now almost at full strength.
