Hoddle a "No Go"

I on the other hand would not be happy with the choice. Before we get into it have a look at Hoddle’s previous record before making a decision as to whether you feel I am mad!

Hoddle saw his first managers position come with Swindon. Hoddle in fact took them into the Premier League (which was a shock for all). This led Chelsea to recruit him. Whilst at Chelsea his only success was winning the Cup Winners Cup, but it did not stop England from hiring the rising star.

As England manager Hoddle still holds the second best win ratio behind none other than the great Sir Alf Ramsey, with a 60%. Hoddle did not have great success as England manager, yet he is still considered the best England manager of recent by many. He was sacked as England manager, but this was supposedly down to the "misinteruted" beliefs in an interview.

In my opinion it was the best time to get out as the team had been under performing and a large number of fans and press were calling for his head.

He ended up at Southampton. He managed to bring the team out of the depths of relegation (when the team were strong favorites to go down). When he left the club Southampton were looking likely to achieve their best Premier League finish in 10th. He was then snapped up by Tottenham.

At Tottenham again Hoddle did not achieve any notable accolades for the club and under his reign the club finished in 9th and then 10th. Pressure begun to build in his third season as the team won just 4 points from their opening 6 games and after a 3-1 loss to Southampton he was rightfully sacked.

Hoddle’s final job in management was with Wolves. He took over with 25 games left to play and lost just 1 of those! Unfortunately the club drew 15 of those games and finished outside of the playoffs. The following year Hoddle under achieved again this time with the team finishing 7th a whole 8 points behind the final playoff position. The team managed to draw 19 of their 45 games! As expected Hoddle stepped down stating that the expectations of the club were far too high.

Right now make your decision. Has Hoddle won anything notable as a manager? Has he consistently taken teams on and made them better? The answer to this is no and it is for that reason why I feel Hoddle is completely the wrong choice for the club and I am sure Levy will think the same.

But what are your thoughts? Do you feel Hoddle is actually right for the job? Do you feel that I am too negative on Hoddle? Have your say and join the conversation.
