Internacional Manufacture Bidding war

Last updated : 01 May 2013 By Hog

Internacional had said that Damiao was available in January last summer, Then in January we hear that he will not be allowed to leave until mid way through the Brazilian season (our summer), so it is obvious what has happened. Inter find out Napoli are in talks behind their back and get back in touch with Tottenham.

Giovanni  Luigi (Inter's tactian) is surely in a war with Levy as to who is the best negotiator. Seeing the man's behaviour in regards to the sell of Damiao he has held his cards close to his chest and had levy running around aimlessly (if we are to believe reports).

According to Luigi further discussion have been held since January and ahead of the summer window. He had HINTED that Damiao would be plying his trade in the Premier League, not Brazil or Italy.

It seems that Luigi is not happy that Napoli had held talks with Damiao's agent rather than Inter and this has riled him stating:

"If a club want a player, they must talk to the president of the club at which that particular player plays, and not just deal with the agent - that is not correct."

He then went on to say:

"Recently we talked with Tottenham, Leandro is very likely to play games in England in the coming year. On the other hand, we can exclude Napoli."

I believe that Luigi is very clever and he is doing his best to start a bidding war or put enough pressure on Tottenham to get a price they want. Seems as there are no Tottenham sources though it’s difficult to see if it is just more tactics from the smart Brazilian.

This news may be seen as good news to some Spurs fans that have closely followed the prolonged transfer saga, but be careful believing this great sales man at Inter.

I feel that if we are to get Damiao it will be if we obtain CL this season and then I feel that the serious talks will begin. Damiao had no desire to move to England and play for a team not challenging for anything other than the Europa League. The delays in the transfer are Damiao's desire to play in a team that is capable of putting a challenge and Inter's valuation. As we fully know Brazils exporting of players to Europe have dropped and this is due to Brazil’s economic increase. Players can now get the high wages and stay at home, the World Cup is also another big pull. The only thing that remains the sameis the potential to play against the world’s best (in moving to Europe).

If we do land Damiao it is a step in the right direction and more so it follows up my previous article about Levy bringing in the marquee players to match our players ambition.

So where do we see the club going as fans? In my eyes up and up, AVB in charge, great backroom staff, fantastic new facilities and a squad with rapidly growing talent (through developing first team players, to developing the great youth team) there is only one way that we can go.

Should the quotes and indirect quotes be correct we are in for a big big ride come the summer and likely to be linked with at least 10 of the top available players (Robben likely to be another story to resurface).

It’s potentially further good news now as it seems like talks have finally hit a good point, we just need to see Damiao come out and state he likes Tottenham and we are 75% there!
