Ok this is a similar situation as to our Bale one.
There is one key difference in that Tottenham have a squad and manger capable of regular Champions League, whereas Villa are a squad struggling to maintain their once great name in the Premier league (no offense is meant by that, it's an unfortunate truth).
However is Lambert right in what he states below;
“He’s had one of those seasons where he’s not been injured or suspended, until the last game, and he’s not missed a game or any training. That’s unique."
“He’s only 22-years-old and he needs to remember that he’s got so much to learn. He’s only a kid starting out, he’s going to have ups and downs like everybody else. Once he’s played 300-400 games then you might start to think [he’ll move].
“I don’t mind agents at all, but sometimes you need a bit of a reality check. This kid has only been in Britain for ten months. If somebody wants him now then they will want him in a year’s time. Everyone at Aston Villa loves him.
“We’ve been speaking about extending his contract for the last few weeks but he’s still got three years left.”
Yes Benteke has a lot to learn and is young, which is why I feel that given our successful youth system that he would make better advances at our club. But that is being bias, so I won't go into that too much.
Benteke has got a lot of talent and is part of a generation of superb Belgium players. It seems that Belgium just keep pulling more and more players out of their pocket! With only 10 months in the country you would be stupid not to think that some issues could come up when he actually settles into the country (as it stands he is not settled).
Lambert will fight tooth and nail to keep their star man, but with comments coming from Benteke stating he will decide his own future and no new contract being signed, you have to ask how long you can expect to see the player at Villa?
I think we should try a cheeky £13million bid and start the bidding war off, certainly rather that than land Villa!
