Lamela Frustration

Last updated : 24 February 2015 By Hoggg

Following the West Ham game Lamela was singled out for a large amount of criticism. Although he deserved it following his display on Sunday I don't feel that it was fair to put all the pressure on the youngster.

Lamela started poor then got into the game and made some good simple passing. However as the game went on the player started to get into good spaces, but then was easily dispossessed far too many times.

Interestingly enough though Dembele was very similar and I too lost count of how many times he attempted to shield the ball on his runs or to change direction, but faced the same problems as Lamela.

Moving away from the West Ham game in general though. Looking at the season so far Lamela has made 26 starting appearances, scoring 5 goals and getting 5 assists. If this was Aaron Lennon we would not be complaining (looking at the stats), but due to his high price tag we have no option but to question.

He has changed from his days of not passing off running at everyone and losing every time. Now he has started to play simple balls his game has improved, but his confidence you can tell still isn't where it needs to be. So what's missing? Really it can only be that he is not confident in the league, which will only change over time.

He has ability that is for sure, but something has not clicked on his arrival. For me I think we are missing a trick somewhere and need to really push on how to get the best out of him. Playing him out of position though does not help AT ALL.

I truly hope that Erik comes good and rediscovers his form at Roma, but the problem is the timing involved. Do you wait or do you make back the money spent?
