Moutinho Deal off?

Last updated : 07 January 2013 By Hog

We are now hearing that Holtby may be leaving Schalke for Tottenham this window (something which the player has refused to rule out too).

This would signal that Levy is not willing to sanction a deal for Moutinho as he would have his cheap option in Holtby.

If this is the case we are in trouble. Although the team have done fantastically (as has AVB), but with soon to be 1 striker and several fringe players due to be sold will we have the depth and quality to maintain our performance level? I personally do not believe it. Each season Spur's have started well and been in a great position during the first half of the season. When the second half of the season comes our starting players are understandably tired and are unable to maintain the high level of performance’s that are needed to finish in a top 4 position. Last year we were unlucky (if we had of got some better results yes we could have finished 3rd), but we finished in 4th and Chelsea won the Champions League so we are where we are.

Although I believe that Holtby would be a great addition to the squad I do not think it would be fair of Levy, AVB and the fans to rely so heavily on the youngster who will still need some nurturing into the new league (whilst still helping him to develop).

AVB and Levy rightly so have their cards very close to their chest. The usual sources have struggled to get the information to pass on and no one truly knows whether Spurs will make further purchases. AVB has said we have enough firepower even with Ade gone, but I can't see it myself.

No matter how we look at it we still need that creative midfielder and no one in the squad (including Holtby) can step up now to give us what we need, so therefore we need Moutinho, Sneijder or Willain. Call my writing negative, but I am speaking from facts here people and I am trying to remaining positive in writing this. It is simple though our current squad have been brilliant, some of them are already looking tired (that’s why their performances have seemed to drop) and it is up to Levy & AVB to help them out. By bringing in the best options to compliment the squad and improve it, they allow other players that we rely on to have the rest where needed.

I would love to think that with our current squad we can achieve 3rd (or higher as some of our players think), but we cannot rely on a group of 11 or so players to do all of it without any backup (forgetting if we get injuries).

It’s been a great start to the new year from the guys and I believe that they will give their all, just hope that the chairman does the same for us.

COYS!!!!
