Must Read Team News

Last updated : 06 November 2013 By Hoggg

At this stage last year we were on 3 points less and in 6th position and a goal down on our difference. So although we may well moan at the "boring" play of the team we have in fact moved forward.

After a very exciting summer we found ourselves without our Talisman, but instead we had a wealth of players in his place.

We may have scored 17 goals at this stage last year, but we conceded 14! In the current table looking at the top 10 teams we have scored the second least amount of goals, but we have conceded the second least amount of goals.

What we should be looking at as fans is realising that AVB has done a good job in tightening our defence. To have conceded just 5 goals is tremendous and something that we have failed to acknowledge as fans.

We were conceding a large number of goals in the last minutes, but as it stands we have only conceded one in the last 10 so far this season.

Foundations are important and anything must be built on something solid. It seems that we have worked hard from the back and now we need to begin to focus on the attacking part of our game.

13 clean sheets across all competitions (16 games) is no small feat and something that we need to start to recognise. The goals will come and we know this, but for your own sake look at the stats people! We are in 4th (or joint 2nd), conceded the second least amount of goals in the league and are averaging 2 points per game compared to 1.7 from last season.

We can sit here and blame players, tactics or referee's, but I am massively impressed that a team with 7 new players (9 if you include Holtby, Fryers and Townsend who hadn't really played for the first team at all) has managed to conceded so few goals and has maintained a 2 point per game average.

We shall see a corner turn once AVB has his official best 11. There are many injuries and players coming back from injury that has led to issues out on the pitch. Considering we have no official left back and key players out can we moan? Of course we can it's human nature, but hopefully I have shed some light on why we should not be quick to judge and be patient as AVB has asked. If he can continue to achieve this level of success we will begin to make big strides forward.
