What is good to hear is that it is known in the squad and Jan Vertonghen was the first to come out and say it.
"We know what our goal is now."
"We have to stay together and to go for that top four place in the Premier League," said Jan.
"We have a rest, we clear our heads and we come back against Manchester City.
"A lot of players could be coming back, important players and we only have big games now, City, Chelsea, all cup finals. We go for the highest place possible."
It is no small task to win all the remaining games with 2 of those games coming against City (this weekend) and also the re-arranged Chelsea game. I am not concerned about those games as we have pulled off some great results (plus we will supposedly have Bale and Lennon back), it’s the "lesser" teams that worry me. We have allowed those teams too much space and time on the ball.
However when I say worry I actually mean that I expect more of a game from them. Lets’ face it City have nothing to play for (other than the cup) and Chelsea have been very hit and miss this season, in my opinion I see a draw with City and a win against Chelsea (along with the remaining games being a win).
Is this good enough to get 4th or 3rd (I think so)!
Although Arsenal have leapfrogged us I still cannot believe that they walked away with 3 points. 3 points is 3 points though, so although it was undeserved they still got them and now in 3rd and us in 5th.
I would love to see Everton win against Arsenal just to keep everything alive (tomorrow night) and to be honest I could see it happening, but expect to see a draw.
It’s still a long way to go and we have had a major injury crisis, so who says it can't happen to anyone else. Either way I see us finishing in 3rd on 71 points, Chelsea 70 points and Arsenal 68 points. If that’s how it finishes than I am happy but I will be honest and say that I have accounted for 1 loss and 1 draw in this. Call me mental, a dreamer whatever you want I had always said as we began to close the season that it would be 70 points minimum needed to win and looking at the above who else can argue?
