This is exciting times for Spurs fans. The news of the transfer was perfectly tied as it gave fans (those that were not aware of the player) the chance to watch him in the Confederations Cup.
As I had reported last week it was unlikely that the player would be playing in the Recopa Cup (1st leg tomorrow), as the deal between Tottenham and Corinthians had been agreed. It would have been near impossible for his old club to be able to renegotiate without affecting the agreed transfer fee.
It is a great bit of business for both Tottenham and Corinthians. I for one welcome the 24yr old midfielder with open arms.
He is highly thought of at Corinthians and is a true professional, so again I really do look forward to his arrival, as we need to fill our team with young & world class talent with a good mentality to match.
The final words on his transfer to Tottenham were;
"The proposal came, we sat down, analysed it and decided. It was a big decision to go to a big club. There comes a certain point when you need new challenges."
So now onto the next targets. I see that we have not (according to the press) quite finalised our deal to bring Jedvaj and Halilovic (which could signal Dinamo's intent to push the price up on Tottenham), with interest looming from the likes of Utd, Arsenal and Liverpool. However I have heard reports that this deal is tied up as was the Paulinho deal (but still the press stated that it was not tied up).
The next targets I see are Villa and Soldado with a combined fee mooted of around £24million. This would be a great achievement if we can land both, but it would come as a surprise to pry Soldado from Valencia's tight grip. The arrival of 2 Spainards would certain help the likes of Falque (who is still ever improving). Hold it there though. With the £17million on Paulinho and another £17 on the Croatian kids thats £34million already! If you add another £24million thats £58milllion! As much as I would like to see that money being spent I think that it seems a little pie in the sky. With the definite sale of Ade, Huddlestone, Livermore and Khumalo that would fetch around £15million, you could see the above happening (but we are likely to see other fringe player’s shown the door to bring in the much needed improvement in the squad)
COYS!!!
