Sigurdsson's Rise

However after just 5 Premier League Gylfi has already matched last season's goal tally!

Three goals in 5 appearances has seen Gylfi become a fan favorite (for the time being), but the important question is whether this rich form will last?

I believe that the Icelander has simple settled in. Looking at his previous three clubs we can see this. At Swansea he managed to notch up 7 goals in a half season loan, 12 goals at Hoffenheim and 17 at Reading (to make clear we are taking only league into account).

Upon Gylfi's arrival most fans were happy that we got one over Liverpool and forgot to focus on whether the lad was truly ready for the big step up. Brendan Rodgers was certain and it seemed as if AVB was. Finally this season it feels like he has finally settled.

Watching him play against the opposition he looks lively, confident and finding all the right spaces. Most importantly he seems to have found his shooting boots.

His confidence I feel was highlighted against Chelsea, but not with the goal he scored. The last minute shot against Chelsea was the sort of shot we expect from Bale, not Sigurdsson.

I do wonder if it is simply a new found confidence or whether something has been said, special training or a slight change in tactics?

Don't believe me though look at his Squawka stats!

Last year he amassed 266 point for the entire season (33 games) and in just 5 games he has 199 points. Last season he created .75 chances a game and at present he is on 1.2 chances a game. It is for these reasons that he is joint 4th in our teams chart with Paulinho. 2nd is a mere 8 points, but Dembele is the front runner with 253 points.

I realise that he could go off the boil and then end up with similar figures to last year, however not according to the stats and charts. Gylfi had started to perform at the end of last season, so if anything he is picking up where he left off.

This summer we have not only seen the acquisition of numerous great players, but the coming of age of 3 existing players (Rose, Townsend and Sigurdsson).

I welcome this and I am sure that it is an example of just how good a manager and back room staff we really have.

More of it Gylfi!
