Soldado and Damiao Swoop

Many people will probably ask why I am so negative about us signing Damiao, but it is simple really. If we were serious about buying Damiao it would have happened in January. If Inter were intent on selling him they would not keep saying that he will stay another 6 months every time someone is linked to him.

It seems that Damiao is always in the background as a PR fall back in case we fail with our real targets. Damiao has been there for the taking for 2 seasons and still we are no further forward than when we originally made our interest public. Each transfer window at the tail end he is brought up that we are in discussions with to go nowhere. If we were going to buy him it would have been in January not this summer. Surely after 1 round of negotiations we knew what it what take to secure Damiao so how could it fail a second time?

As for Soldado this is another striker that we had been linked to all season. Yes a goal scorer of the highest calibre, but for some reason Real Madrid nor Barcelona want him? Why is that? I really can’t tell. Ok the guy us 27 yrs old and for the past 4 seasons he has scored over 20 league goals a season, the last 2 years he has scored 27 goals in all competitions (so he is consistent). So there is no apparent reason to pass him up. The big problem for us is his value. We wouldn't pay over £16million for Damiao, we wouldn't pay £25million for Moutinho and the most we have ever spent on one player is just over £16million, so I cannot see us going much higher.

Levy is a shrewd businessman (for that I am grateful), but I do not see that the money is there to spend £20million on one player (and that’s if Valencia want to sell him).

For me Soldado at £20million is above our comfort zone and Damiao is just one of those Urban Myths. So the Daily Express quoting £36million for both..... our survey says .... we all the answer.

COYS!!!!!
