Striker Insanity!

We have never seen such a negative looking front line since I can remember! Adebayor has come back from the African Cup, but he has already launched his excuses!

Ade told the BBC: "I'm still young, so whenever my country needs me I'll be up for it because I've started something and I have to finish it.

We were stopped in the quarter-finals, maybe next time we'll be in the final and win it. So for me, it's never finished while I have the chance to win something. [The future] is looking good, with all the problems before coming to Afcon, and we've showed character, good face and showed we are a team that can play good football. I think I have done my best and physically I'm exhausted, but that's football. It's a tough one for all the players, for myself, for everyone, but life goes on."

So we can see that Ade has no intentions of hitting the ground running, add this to the fact that AVB does not trust Ade and snubbed him for pretty much the 1st half of the season (rightly or wrongly) it leaves us in a rapidly growing mess.

Harry Kane was drafted back into the squad, but with all due respect to Harry Kane; he is not able to cope with the Premier League and this has shown in his record. It was a very desperate attempt to fill a huge void that should never have been made.

JD has not been the same since picking up an injury late last year. Now we can say that we had to play him, but he struggled to score and Dempsey (although not an out and out striker) had shown that he can fill the void for a short period, which took us into the January window and we could have signed a suitable substitute until at least the end of the season on a loan deal (a cheap option).

Like other fans out there I am exceptionally concerned as to who's decision it was, was it AVB (ask yourself if any sane manger would be truly happy with 1 out and out striker) or is it someone higher up. Well it only takes common sense to work it out; we are all aware of the culprit.

Now up steps Gareth Bale. Is he now going to be used as our substitute striker? We are aware that he gets lost in the middle of the park, Gareth works at his best on the left wing cutting in. So in that sense its’ not a great idea, but more importantly who would we then use on the left? Yes we have just signed Holtby but he works best in the middle and with Townsend loaned out we are left with either no fit strikers or a hole on the left.

It is complete and utter insanity and I cannot believe that we have been stupid enough to make such a mistake I am still speechless over it all.

One thing I do know is that we must stick by our team, forget what mistakes have been made higher up the chain; AVB and the squad cannot change this and can only play to their best and keep pushing.

It’s going to be the toughest season to date with the difficult part of the second half coming in March and April. It will put our squad to the test and we are already beginning to see that we could rely on Holtby, but I just hope that we don't do it too much and too fast.

I am concerned, a little excited (with what Holtby can offer), but most importantly I am still expecting to see 4th minimum as all concerned in the club must feel its achievable with our current squad (otherwise we would have made further purchases).

I just hope the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and Everton carry on slipping up so that it gives us more of a fighting chance.
