Striker Transfer

Since Ade and Defoe have been playing up front together they have produced a small goal-scoring tally compared to Defoe as a lone striker. So on that front some may say that we will be in a better position with Defoe reverting back to the lone striker and Dempsey as the support man.

However whether that is true or not, it is not a risk that we can now afford to take. Ade has been called up and the likely hood of an injury to Defoe is 50-50 in any match so we no longer have the luxury of sitting on hands, we must be pro-active!

We have been linked to a wide range of talent even after the market closed and it continued until the market re-opened.

It has been said that we will now look to steal Remy from under Newcastle's noses, we are in "advanced negotiations" over Damiao, Huntelaar (who yes did sign a new contract in December) and the past it Villa.

So now we know that we cannot go with one striker, but does that mean that Levy will make a big signing up front? Unfortunately the anwser is no. Although people blame Harry for the signing of the older players, Levy has done this on several occasions (before Harry) and he sanctioned the ones for Harry (so he is not blameless). If Villa was available at £5million I think we would not be having the conversation.

We have already missed out on Demba Ba and Daniel Sturridge (which were cheaper options than the above players). So where does that leave us?

Levy had backed AVB well in the summer and if he was truly pushing as hard as he could with Moutinho then I don't believe that he will let the club down. However you always have to remember that it is a business, maybe the money won't be spent, maybe no more transfer will come in or maybe Levy will make some shrewd and wise investments?

Who knows at the moment, but it is leading to some interesting reading and writing!

If it was me I would push the boat out for Llorente and Damiao (get the cheaper of those, if they want to come that is), or go for an unknown such as Philipp Hosiner 23 yrs old 15 goals in 13 appearences in Austria,  Winifried Bony 24 yrs old 15 goals in 16 appearences (what have we got to lose?).

COYS!!!!
