The issue of leaving it late - Levy

Last updated : 06 August 2012 By Hog

When a club is down to bear bones in any position it is a dangerous position to put yourself in. We have sold and released all but 1 recognised striker and with only 12 days until our first game against Newcastle it is a big concern.

AVB must be concerned that throughout our preseason we have not got at least 1 new striker into gel with the squad. If we had 2 recognised strikers witin the squad it would not be a big concern, however we are playing a dangerous game.

I believe any football fan would want their team to pay a little over an asking price so that the squad can get settled and ready to play in the coming season. We have an established back four and (although ageing) solid keeper in Friedel. Our midfield (although having been shaken by Modric, whos now going nowhere) is argueably one of the premierships best (plus with Sigurdsson seemingly settled, we are now stronger). So now with 1 recognised striker and 1 youngster in Kane we are in a very difficult position, especially if Defoe was to get injured.

For all Levy's good trates his late dealing could cost us our season this year and for once before the dreaded January market (where he leaves it too long to bring a fresh face when needed).

We need strikers and we need them now, a keeper can stretch to next season, but Lloris may be handing in a transfer request by next week (so there is still hope there).
