Tottenham currently are the only team to have 4 midfielders in the top 20 Premier League midfielders. According to the rapidly rising website Squawka Spurs fans alike should be reassured after reading this.
Mousa Demele - 4th
Townsend - 9th
Paulinho - 14th
Sigurdsson - 19th
Collectively They have amassed 933 Squawka points. The next closest is Man City with 806. The other team’s midfield (based on Squawka's Top 20) drop off quite quickly.
Townsend will seemingly continue to rise quickly as he continues to show case his talents, but I fear Sigurdsson may fall out of the Top 20 with some improved performances, so this could change quite quickly.
However with the return of Lennon it may be that AVB feels more comfortable putting him and Townsend on the wings, leaving Sigurdsson with a place on the bench.
Some fans and pundits may have written off our chances of even placing in the Top 4, but we need to remember that 2 of our Top 20 midfielders have only just broken into the first team or have just transferred in, for me it is a great achievement! Our midfield is set to go from strength to strength.
We have Capoue and Chaldi to come back to full fitness and Lamela is settling into the squad slowly and Eriksen had some great performances and then seems to have tapered off some what. For me this just shows how great our squad they are better than a large percentage of current Premier League teams.
Once our midfield has established itself and the players have learnt each others styles and runs I can only see a much more creative and balanced team. The difficulty is who will win the battle to secure their place.
