Townsend raring to go

Although more game time at the highest level will do wonders to building this guys confidence and experience I do worry that the youngster will burn himself out.

In an interview with the FA Townsend had this to say;

“I have had my first two games, but there has been a lot of players that have started well in their international careers and faded away, and I can’t let that happen to me.

“I’ve got to keep playing well whenever given the chance and try and force my way onto the plane next summer.

“We’ve got a big squad because we’ve got fantastic players. Every single one of us is going to be trying to impress in training and in the games to try and get on that plane.

“There aren’t too many other opportunities before the summer to play for England and impress the manager so everyone is going to be giving 100 per cent to catch the manager’s eye.”

Andros has been brought back into the England fold for games against Chile and Germany, but he is determined to put the applause to one side  and concetrate.

“I don’t think it could have gone any better. It was midday before the game when Roy was going through the team and I was just excited and couldn’t wait for the game to start and show what I can do.

“To make my home debut in such an important game in front of a home crowd was good, but for me to help England win, and not only score a goal but to help create another one, it was a dream debut for me.

“I’ve just tried to put all the England stuff to one side and tried to focus on playing for Spurs and helping them get as high in the league as we can. You can’t get carried away with what people write or say about you, you just have to keep going.

“Chile have got some fantastic players, none more so than Alexis Sanchez, so it’s not going to be an easy game and a great occasion.

“I think they are going to have no fear and look to win the game, so it should be a good open encounter that I’m looking forward to should I be given the chance on the field.

“And Germany speak for them themselves. I think it’s a great opportunity for us to test ourselves against the best so early on going into next summer. We can see where we are, see what we’ve got to work on and see how far we’ve got to go to be one of the top nations.

“It’s one that all members of the squad are looking to get involved in.”

He also commented on the fans saying; “The crowd were great in my first two games and it does help when they are on your side.

“Hopefully they can be our twelfth man against Chile and Germany.”

A rising star can burn out quickly, so I just hope that Andros is being given the right advice and that he is not pushing himself too much. As he says himself others have tried and failed, but I believe he has the character to pull it off.

I wish him and the rest of the National team well!
