Transfer Updates

Sneijder is set to make a bizarre and career threatening move to Turkey of all places! If the reports are anything to go by the player is making a rash decision as he is concerned that he will end up having to stay in Italy with Inter. Interestingly enough though if he stays at Inter they would be forced to pay him and come the end of the season they can mutually cancel his contract and he would have had the time to setup a suitable move for him and his career. People have said that he is a disruption to any squad, but put yourself in his position and ask if you would be happy in his position. You join a new company and agree your contract. Then after a short while they come back to you and state we don't want to pay you the amount stated in your contract (as we have messed up) so we want to half your wages. I would be fuming, but then to make matters worse Inter owe him his signing on fee as well! The setup at Inter has obviously taken a huge drop from where the they were. I was a fan of Italian football, but now the flare seems to have dwindle out.

Zaha has been tipped to make a move to the Premier league with the big guns supposedly set to pounce. Only problem is that the Palace Chairman is going crazy and has created an imaginary bidding war (if reports are correct). One minute Spurs are the only club wanting him and set to tie up the deal, then Utd come in and Spurs step out. Not trying to teach anyone how to suck eggs, but did anyone stop to think that there has been no official announcements from all parties, so what does this tell you? If clubs have been in negotiations I feel that they have in fact been put off by the ridiculous price tag of £20million for a youngster yet to play in the premier league (not even half a season!). This is the issue with the English players, all clubs ask for a ridiculous price as they don't want to lose their youngsters (understandable), the big clubs make the mistake of paying the big tag and then there is pressure on the player from the club and fans to perform. The player goes from having fun and concentrating on playing to having to worry constantly about each and every touch & pass. I see Zaha making a move, but not at that sky-high price and likely not til the summer.

Damiao rumours are now buidling up more and more. Most of it coming from the smaller websites that are re-publishing the same stories printed a short while back. This has been purely down to Ade's departure to Africa, which I can see is understandable, but AVB and Levy need to be reminded the least out of anyone of this. The player’s ownership is complex and it has not taken Levy 3 years to sort this out and then get Damiao for the same price as when he first lodged his interest in the player. £15million we all know is not what is quoted for the player and the likely hood of landing the striker at that price and not getting competition from Europes elite it sounds like a fairy tale to be honest. If the reports were true Levy would have had this done and dusted by January and it announced by the open of the window.

Lastly we come to Younes Belhanda. A player that last year was valued at €60million and won the Ligue 1 player of the year, he is now under performing and has led to the club’s owner stating he's not the same player, no longer in Hazard's class, but he must be worth €15million. He is about to move to Turkey and I think that Montpellier are trying to get a bit more for their player (or his agent is), I don’t want the player if Montpellier don’t (there is more to it if you ask me).

At the end of the day Damiao and Sneijder are the only options that can take us forward to where we want to be. We know that we can spend on some younger talents like Belhanda and Zaha, but there is no guarantee that they will continue the form that got them recognised in the Premier League. Everyone must remember that gossip is just that, I try to put the gossip out there and put my opinion on it. If we do not gain momentum now with some further "Big Name" additions we will do the usual and falter toward the middle of the second half of the season as the players are fatigued and their confidence then drops because of their performance. This then leads to the usual complaints form the fans and rightly so. Then the new season comes and we must then spend a large chunk again in hope to catch up and then get to where we want to be.

My honest opinion is this; Push on now spend the money now and guarantee your spot in the Champions league by spending the money needed and recoup it from your inclusion in the Champions league. Yes we would have to spend further in the summer, but only on one player at the most rather than 3 or 4.

Come on Levy get the chequebook out and sign the needed players not their cheaper options.
