Tyro League Tottenham

Last updated : 13 April 2015 By Hoggg

Once again Tottenham have shown the lack of ability and flexibility on a pitch and crashed to another disastrous result at home to Aston Villa! The worse thing is that it took the team essentially 45 minutes to even realise that they were playing football.

There is a complete lack of passion by the squad and a regular laziness is being shown on the pitch.

The line-up was a big shock with Chiriches being moved out to RB in the absence of Walker's injury. Why Yedlin was not used from the start is beyond me and it makes no sense, other than putting Fazio and Chiriches in the shopping window.

MoPo has without a doubt shown his naivety on his team selection with a defence that has never played together and with players out of position!

Chadli again showed that the step from the Eredivisie to the Premier League was far too much of a jump. He may have 9 goals to his name, but he has far more bad games than good games. The last time he had a "good" games was against Swansea on 4th March! Since then he has only managed an average rating of 5.5! For me the player should be dropped and wages deducted for such a poor show in the past 5 games.

The pressing by the team was again nonexistent and it highlights that the team is filled with Pre-Madonna's rather than players. I would say there are exceptions for the likes of Kane who cannot affect the game if he is given poor service. Football fans are sensible enough to see that it is a poor midfield and a leaky defence that have stopped the team from progressing. Is there any wonder that only one striker is flying? No. Kane has a huge point to prove and is working around the clock to get results. He has been the out and out saviour (Lloris comes a close second and Eriksen 3rd), but in all honestly there are 9 other team members that are not performing their job.

Anyone can easily state that there has been good and great games, but when the team is not performing consistently to a high level there are issues.

The problem is that we had the same thing under Sherwood, AVB and Harry. The true problem is the same as it has always been. The winning mentality has not been installed into these players. The drive to perform consistently well every game, the occasional bad game is fine. When you look at a youngster like harry he had to work to get into his position. Freely scoring in Europe and still he wasn't given the chance, but once that changed he grew accustomed to the high level that is always needed. It’s difficult when the likes of Vertonghen and Eriksen come in from the Netherlands where the league is improving, but it’s easier over there, you can win without putting in 100% consistently. I mean no offense to the Eredivisie as I enjoy watching it, but players coming from these leagues need to try header.

Spurs have a good nucleolus, but need that injection of a winning mentality. They need to have a true winner to lead them from the back and a midfield engine to link up the defence and midfield. The likelihood is that the rest of the team will fall into place. It will give more freedom for the midfield, meaning more support for the front line.

There’s a lot of work for AVB in the summer as there are many players to sell off Chadli, Fazio, Chriches, Adebayor and Kaboul to name a few simply do not work within our team.

Although look at what LVG has done at Utd. A few key signings and again they are now back at the top and looking for the 2nd slot in the league.

Thoughts anyone?
