Personally before you even look at the price tag I think you have to realise that Vermaelen is in fact the club captain! I cannot see Arsenal letting their best defender go and for the sum of £5million!
Either way I would happily take the defender at that price (we would have a great squad of defenders then), but I cannot see this happening. Arsenal would not want to strengthen our ranks with their captain no matter how poor a finish he had to the season.
Forget this one for now, there are more urgent issues at hand like Napoli's approach for AVB!
