Why AVB will buy a striker in Jan

No great teams have coped with just 2 recognised strikers and with how our’s have been playing you have to question if they are even recognised!

As it stands Defoe has scored 5 goals in 14 appearances, but for the past 4 games he hasn't scored (yes that is in all competitions). Now that figure would not usually concern me, but when you see who he has played, questions must be asked. I was emailed last night and asked to consider the amount of balls put into the box by Defoe (as opposed to goals scored), its a vaild arguement, but I expect my strikers to score goals first and foremost.

Adebayor has now made 5 sub appearances, which again should not concern me, however every time he is in line to start we are told that he is injured or ill? To me something is not quite adding up, but either way shortly this will not be a concern, as he’ll be out on international duty.

Come January til mid February we will be down to just Defoe as Adebayor will be away for the African Cup of Nations.

So I have to ask what are we going to do? Well its obvious isn't it? According to some sources we are going to buy Andy Carroll (which is hilarious). I cannot see a caveman version of Peter Crouch that cannot score be brought in to provide us with strength (yes I know Carroll used to score!). We must find valid attacking options that can take the club forward.

We are again being linked to Huntelaar and Llorente and niether of them have signed a new contract to keep them at their respective clubs.

Huntelaar has scored 6 goals in 13 appearences this season for Schalke, but last season scored an unbelieveable 48 goals in 47 appearences. Since leaving Milan in 2010 he has shown that he is one of the most prolific strikers in Europe. There are suggestions that we are making enquiries for a €7million move, but Liverpool are also waiting in the wings. Once again I can imagine that out of Liverpool and Tottenham that he would choose Tottenham, but there will be other clubs that would steal a march on either of the 2 clubs. However he could still sign a new contract.

Llorente is another striker who has managed to throw himself into the limelight (scoring 29 goals last season) and I am sure I am not the only one that was shocked when Bilbao did not sell him in the summer. Juventus were front-runners for the striker, but supposedly he turned them down. So this tells me that he is expecting to sign for Barcelona or Real Madrid. Its common sense really.

As it stands these are the only genuine achievable striking targets for Tottenham as the other options seem out of reach. There certainly is no point in taking the likes of Carroll as he is not performing and has not lived up to his name since his time at Newcastle. The youngsters that would have been a good acquisition like Jordan Rhodes have been snapped up (he's scored 5 goals in 10 appearances since moving to Blackburn), so we really are going to be pushed to get a cheap option this time round. Levy will have to put up or allow our season to fall into the abyss.

It all seems to make sense that we do need another striker, we certainly did before confirmation of Adebayors participation in the African Nations Cup and given the current form we must push on for a 3rd striker.

Next up is the midfield! hummm maybe another time.

Come on you Spurs
