Why ignore home grown talent?

I had said it a while back before Jordan Rhodes transfer to Blackburn in 2012. The 23 yr old Scotsman has played 68 games for Blackburn and notched up 43 goals! At the age of 21 he scored 40 goals in 45 appearances!

Now a current goal’s to game ratio of 0.63 is not bad at all, but with a step up into a team with world class players I would expect to see his goal tally shoot up.

Rhodes may cost a fair bit of money and may not be the recognised international player that most fans want, but he is young and learning quickly, whilst still scoring freely.

Would you rather have Berbatov or the likes of a youngster who has been monitored by big teams, has years before he even reaches his prime and is already growing well into his potential? He is ready for a step up and has just come out and said that he has a desire to play in the premier league.

Comparing his style of play and background he is the sort of player that Tim Sherwood would look at (we have seen that he prefers to look at home-grown, just look at who Tim has pushed through into the first team).

For me we are desperate for a new striker and like back in 2012 I can see that Rhodes is still the right player to bring in and now more than ever.

I did want Bony and again made that very clear in the summer and now we get to watch the powerful forward rip our defenders apart and worse score (don’t tell me you wouldn’t want him in our squad). Could you of imagined Bony and Ade as a partnership!!!

Anyway we are where we are and we need a new striker. Benteke is not as explosive as last season (so still expensive, but maybe not consistent enough), Bony would not be available and we won’t be spending £15million plus this January I can assure you, so I feel that the likes of Rhodes( being a home-grown player) would fit into Levy and Sherwood’s mindset well, so why not go for him!
