7th Spot Confirmed.

Last season Aston Villa finished 5th but did not qualify courtesy of Middlesbrough winning the Carling cup & Millwall getting to the FA cup final.

This time round its been a clean sweep for the “Big 3” freeing up two additional slots for the rest of us, whilst UEFA awarded the EPL an additional Champions League place.

That being the case it was important not to lose at Ainfield as we are now embroiled in a 4 way tussle for that ever important last placement.

So the eventual 2 – 2 result was very welcome even if we did fail to hold the lead on two occasions. (Especially considering the Steve G. penalty miss & the two Liverpool chances at the death).

Boltons win at Charlton probably puts 6th spot out of reach, but puts us three points clear of Charlton & with Arsenal away to come, that could turn out to be very important.

Our three contenders Boro, Villa & Charlton have easier runs to ours, but the saving grace is the Charlton v Villa fixture coupled with Boro V Spurs & Spurs v Villa.

Spurs fans of course will be looking no further than Wednesday night where we entertain a resurgent Baggies side, with 3 points being vital for both teams, this has the makings of yet another end to end 90 minute game at White Hart Lane, it is certainly not going to be easy for either side.
