90min's Tottenham Player of the Month Award - September

Yes, they were nothing short of dire on matchday one. Yes, there have been trips to the perimeters of the continent, Yes, they churned out, arguably, their most impressive performance of the Jose Mourinho era and still dropped two points, but Tottenham nevertheless exit September 2020 with an overriding sense of optimism.

Their work in the transfer market has been superb, while on-field performances are ever-improving under the 'Special One'.

Even a certain Tanguy Ndombele has completed two (TWO) full games this month! Everything's coming up Milhouse on the Lilywhite side of north London.

Sure, their Premier League form in the first month of action has been patchy, but we've nonetheless seen a couple of key spokes in Jose's wheel shine in the first month of the campaign.

Here are 90min's inaugural Tottenham Player of the Month awards.

3. Hugo Lloris

Appearances: 3 Average Rating: 6.33

The World Cup-winning skipper may have failed to keep a clean sheet in September but there's no denying that he's continued his impressive post-lockdown form at the start of 2020/21.

Lloris has saved 80% of the shots he's faced thus far - ranking third among Premier League goalkeepers - and is completing passes at a rate (85.5%) that tops his career-best in north London (78.2%).

While the Frenchman has always been an elite shot-stopper, there's no doubting his increased reliability between the Lilywhite sticks as of late. He's still making outrageous saves - see reflexes to deny Che Adams on matchday two - but also committing fewer braindead errors in the process - touchwood.

Mourinho's deeper defensive line and the reduced onus on Lloris to serve as a 'sweeper-keeper' has benefitted Spurs' number one massively.

2. Son Heung-min

Appearances: 3 Average Rating: 7.67

He's just the most loveable fella on the planet, right?

Even when the South Korean's dispatching four against your favourite side with the sort of ruthless efficiency only seen in Munich, Bavaria, you can't help but admire the guy.

Following a quiet showing on matchday one, Son's quartet of strikes at Southampton reminded us all of his supreme gift. When offered space in behind and handed opportunities one-vs-one, there are very few in world football superior to the South Korean. He had an absolute field day at St. Mary's.

A hamstring injury cut short his afternoon against Newcastle on matchday three after striking the woodwork twice from typically pinpoint efforts from distance, but he should return to wreaking havoc after the international break.

1. Harry Kane

Appearances: 3 Average Rating: 8.00

This is as close to 2017 Harry Kane as we've seen over the past three years. But perhaps this iteration is even better, more complete.

The England skipper may have scored just once this month but it's his supreme playmaking capacity which has helped him to a healthy average rating of 8.00 and, in our eyes, Spurs' Player of the Month for September.

It was Kane who embarked on a Harlem globetrotter-like display on matchday two to tee up Son for his four-course meal, proving himself to be the most complete centre forward the game has to offer with some of the most sublime passing you're ever likely to see from a number nine.

The Englishman was playing like his hero, a certain Tom Brady, with Son his Randy Moss. The pair combined as if they were playing for the 2007 New England Patriots.

He looks back to his sharpest, notching another assist against Newcastle, and hey, it appears that he's finally about to receive some support with Benfica's Carlos Vinicius set to join the club on loan before the 5 October deadline.

Those poor old ankles just got a little sterner.
