The former Crystal Palce striker who was signed in 1995 for £4.5m, has been frustrated by injuries for much of his time at Spurs, and it has been decided that he is no longer required at the club.

The 30 year old, was signed as a replacement for Jurgen Klinsmann and immediantly formed a super parternship with Teddy Sheringham. Since that first season though, things have gone downhill and the striker has found it hard to remain in the first team due to both injuries and poor form.

Glenn Hoddle speaking on the club's website announced the disappointed news

"Sadly, the time has come where we had to make a decision and we've had to say no and he'll have to move on."

"I have said to Chris that if he doesn't find a club straight away he can come back to train with us in pre-season, use our facilities and we'll give him the opportunity to get 100 per cent fit."

"We owe that to the lad. He's a smashing lad and we wish him well."
