Barcelona Make Late Enquiry to Hijack Inter Deal for Christian Eriksen

Barcelona are said to have made a very late enquiry over signing Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen this month. It comes just as rumours have emerged that Spurs have finally agreed a deal to sell the Denmark international to Inter.

Even though Eriksen is out of contract at the end of the season and will be available as a free agent in summer, Inter have been chasing the player all month in an attempt to sign him immediately.

It has been reported that Tottenham have accepted a proposal from Inter worth €20m. It is also said that Eriksen will have an Inter medical early next week – some reports say it will be Monday, some say Tuesday. But, for all intents and purposes, the transfer looks like a goer.

However, a new report from Sky Sports claims that Barcelona are now on the scene and have registered their interest in Eriksen by making an enquiry.

Sky claim that while Eriksen has agreed personal terms with Inter and his proposed move to Milan is thought to be close, there is still no final agreement between the clubs over the transfer fee, despite other aforementioned reports to the contrary.

If Barcelona hold a genuine interest in Eriksen they will have to move exceptionally fast.

The supposed interest from Camp Nou does come as something of a surprise. The Catalans have been prioritising a striker as cover for the injured Luis Suarez this month, while other clubs like Real Madrid, Juventus, PSG and Manchester United have been more linked with Eriksen.

That being said, there has been renewed uncertainty over the future of midfielder Ivan Rakitic and it could be that soon to be 28-year-old Eriksen is seen as a younger but still affordable upgrade on the ageing Croatian, who will be 32 in March.
