Big influence of Davids helps end bad run

Three days after urging his team-mates not to "accept" a 0-0 draw against Blackburn Rovers, Davids apparently roamed around the White Hart Lane dressing-room after the 2-0 defeat by Chelsea in August and assured those same players that there was "nothing to be ashamed about", claimed James Ducker in The Times today.

Jol said: "Michael Carrick is trying to follow Edgar’s lead. After every game he praises them or criticises them, then leaves the dressing-room and leaves them alone."

Davids added: "For me, it is normal to be a leader. I have almost always been given that role. The young players here are as good as those (when I was) at Ajax. They have talent, but that is not good enough. A few times now they have also showed character and that is what it is all about."

Not even a seventh booking of the season for a rash challenge on Henri Camara could tarnish the Dutchman’s afternoon, as his first goal in England sunk Wigan at the JJB on Saturday.

"I have been given so many cards since I came here it feels like Christmas," he added.
