British stars in a different league

They include Spurs against Nottingham Forest at White Hart Lane on Sunday, as well as Arsenal’s home tie with Sheffield United a day earlier.

One player who can account for there being scarce divide between the two leagues is Tottenham midfielder Michael Brown. He has been a Premiership regular for the past 13 months since moving to Spurs from Brammal Lane.

"I made the step up from the Football League last season and it's just been a case of settling in and getting used to the normal thing of playing at a new club," said Brown.

Tottenham signed Andy Reid and Michael Dawson from Sunday’s east-Midlands opponents on the final day of the January transfer window. Frank Arnesen also sealed a deal that will bring Tom Huddlestone to the club from Derby County in the summer. Having played against all three players in the lower league on numerous occasions, Brown had his first opportunity to play alongside Reid for Tottenham a fortnight ago.

"Andy (Reid) is a very special talent with a great left-foot, but the other two are also high-quality players. I would say they are equally good in their respective positions and it's great for the future of Tottenham," added Brown.

Brown scored for the Blades in both legs of their 2003 Division One play-off semi-final win against Forest, and the 27-year-old is looking forward to causing Gary Megson’s struggling side more problems at White Hart Lane.

"We can afford to concentrate on the FA Cup at the moment. It's down to us and we couldn't have asked for more than to be in this position," said Brown.

Reid will miss playing against his former club after he made his final appearance for Gary Megson’s side in the previous round.
