Can Spurs turn the Lane into a fortress?

Martin Jol said: "We've been involved in some incredible games recently and we've certainly entertained the crowd but sometimes, especially away, you don't always want that. I want to entertain our fans, not the other team's crowd.

"We need to score goals at the moment, whereas last season we had probably four or five one-nils - especially away from home - but this year is different.

"We are conceding too many goals from corner kicks and free-kicks - and that is a problem. I think it is not only about physical toughness, but about concentration as well."

"I know we could have had a result there (Stamford Bridge) last season until Gallas scored the winner and that was a poor goal to concede - it was only about one clearance. The year before we had a draw and we have beaten them here at White Hart Lane.

"It was not about containing Chelsea at 3-1 after the break and people tend to either talk about going forwards or backwards! We don't go backwards, we go forward to try and score goals and we have scored 20 in our last six games. You can't say we don't go forward, all our intentions are attacking intentions - the only thing is you have to keep clean sheets.

"If you concede two goals you have to score three and on Sunday we needed to score four - that is one or two too many.

But for some dubious refereeing decisions Tottenham would have kept a clean sheet in Portugal last week. Spurs can ill-afford to lose at home tonight by much.

Jol has to decide who partners Michael Dawson in central defence. If Robbie Keane doesn't start up front tonight, then Daws will resume as captain with so many injuries to key players in the squad, including Ledley King.

The club also sold Calum Davenport in January and replaced him with Ricardo Rocho who is ineligable for the UEFA Cup this season after appearing for Benfica in the Champions League.

Michael Dawson said: "We've got to keep clean sheets and unfortunately we're not doing that at the moment.

"Believe me we are working on it and talking about it. It is disappointing, you go through stages where you can't keep a clean sheet, then when you do you can't score goals. At the moment we can't stop scoring, so hopefully that carries on and we keep winning games."

"We're confident and thankfully we've got a game so close after Chelsea. Maybe we need a bit of rest but, believe me, we want this game to come around. We played well over in Braga and perhaps a couple of decisions went against us that gave them two goals and a bit of a lifeline. With us at home this time, the supporters have been fantastic and that helps us so much."

After Tottenham's previous appearance at home, the 4-1 win against Bolton in the league, Jol said: "It's all about spells. We had a run of 16 wins in 22 games earlier in the season and people forget about that. We then had Manchester United (0-4), Liverpool (0-1) but the biggest disappointment was Newcastle (2-3) here when we had 23, 24 attempts on goal but lost the game."
