Corporate identities in football criticised

The charity Friends of Classics which holds its winter seminar in London tomorrow says football clubs now regard their badges as something quite different to before.

"The point is that in the 19th century a Latin signature gave status and quality to a football club because a logo in another language is something of great importance," the charity said.

Tottenham founded in 1882 became the latest club yesterday to introduce a design intended for the 21st century after Arsenal and Chelsea both changed their designs last year.
