Tottenham confirmed on Sunday night that the former England captain would train with them until at least February 10.

Still on: Tottenham haven't given up hope of signing David Beckham on loan

But Beckham, whose season at LA Galaxy begins on March 15, wants a deal which will allow him to play a full role for Spurs.

Manager Harry Redknapp said: 'We hope it could still happen. The situation is ongoing. It's being done above my head.'

Redknapp had previously indicatedthat 'insurance issues' might prove too big an obstacle to a loan.'That's what I was led to believe, but apparently that's not the case,'he said later.

It is understood from sources closeto the negotiations that a deal could be secured should Spurs showwillingness to pursue the matter, but they have concerns over signingBeckham for such a short period.

They will also want to determine how fit the midfielder is when he turns up for training. He will meet the club's medical staff today before training for the first time tomorrow.

Beckham, who has previously worked with Tottenham's north London rivals Arsenal, told the Spurs official website: 'It's important that I maintain a high level of fitness during the MLS off season.

'I'm thankful to Tottenham and Harry Redknapp for giving me the opportunity to train with the team over the next month.'
